Tutorial: How to become better at chin-ups

Hey! jfig111 here with a tutorial on how to get better at Chin-Ups.

As a teenager, I’ve always wanted to do something impressive. Yes, a lot of people are really “jacked” and people who aren’t think it’s a waste of time. You know what happens to those people? They lack motivation. Now, not just a few months ago, I couldn’t do a single chin-up.

No, I’m not overweight or anything, I’m pretty scrawny and I had no muscle to my name. Chin-Ups are a real effective way to get some tone on your arms and lats without going to the gym. Even if you can’t do many, or hell, not even one, if you follow this tutorial, you’ll be guaranteed to be able to in a few weeks*.

*Considering that you’re not morbidly obese or have a medical condition preventing you from exercising.

First off, you’ll need:

-A fully set up chin-up bar.
-A sheet to record your results.
-Energy.

Once your chin-up bar is installed, try to do a chin-up. A normal one has your hands about 13-14 inches apart. Have your palms facing towards you. Cross the back of your legs into a lock.

Grab the bar and hang from the ground for 3 seconds. Proceed to pull yourself up until you chin is just above the bar. Hold yourself there for another 3 seconds and then lower yourself.

If you can do that, congrats! You’ll have a headstart.

If you can’t, that’s also fine! Why?

You can do things that prepare you to do a chin-up called NEGATIVES. Negatives are half of a chin-up. To do one, kick yourself off the ground so that your chin is right above the bar and slowly lower. Repeat a couple of times.

What this does is targets the muscle area needed to do a chin-up. If you do this on a regular routine, your muscles will tear and rebuild back stronger until you can do a chin-up.

Alright, so you want to get onto something tough? Let’s split this up into 2 groups. If you can do chin-ups with no sweat, skip to the ADVANCED section.

Nothing helps build muscle more than repetition. The best thing to keep you motivated is seeing progress. On the first day you try this, write down the number of SETS and REPS you did.

SETS are the number of chin-ups (or any activity) you can do. People usually do multiple sets, and in-between sets, you can take a water break or a breather. REPS are the number of chin-ups (or other exercises) you can do without breaks. If you can do 10 chin-ups, you are doing 10 reps.

Usually the arm and upper body muscles take two days to fully recover, so only do these every second day. On your second day, try your hardest again and write down the results.

If you can get up to 6 chin-ups, bravo! Now, what I suggest doing is splitting them into SETS. Sets help with long term muscle development. If you can only do 6 chin-ups before your pooped, do 3 sets of 2 chin-ups. E.g., do 2 chin-ups, take a break, do another 2 chin-ups, take a break, do another 2 chin-ups. You’ll quickly notice that from that point the numbers grow by day.

Don’t forget to record every day you do chin-ups. At the end of a 2 month period of keeping a consistent trial of these, you should notice a huge improvement!

You should go to the Blazebyte Forums and post your results!

ADVANCED
Alright, if you’re already jacked and you’ve read the whole tutorial, laughing, now would be the time to shut your trap and get ready for something real hard.

I thought I was good at chin-ups until I did this torturous (but rewarding) method. I can currently do 3 sets of 15 chin-ups.

First, find a weight belt. Once you have, calculate 20% of your body weight and find it in weights. Attach the weights to the weight belt and cut your routine by 5 reps, but increase by a set. Grab the chin-up bar and hang at the bottom without touching the ground for 5 seconds. Pull yourself up and stay at the top for another 5 seconds. Then lower.

Do that whole thing. You won’t be laughing afterwards.

And if that’s still too easy, add more weight and increase the repetitions.

That concludes this tutorial on doing chin-ups. Hope you guys take the advice and get JACKED this year!
